RESTORATION OF ESIKOLWENI SHELTER

Ukhalhamba Drakensberg Park
World Heritage Site
2014

“Esikolweni Shelter has a north-south orientation and exists at the base of a cliff face and measures about 116 meters in length.

It falls within the Cathedral Peak Ukuhlamba Drakensburg Conservation Area. It is a world heritage site which contains over 250 intriguing and unique rock art images.

With the assistance of a few local villagers, Stephen removed graffiti which appeared over about 65 meters across the length of the site. The graffiti consisted of scratches, engravings, pencil and ink.“
